The Bearded Collie!
Beardies are known as the "Clowns of the dog world" and there is good reason for it! They are lively, inquisitive, intelligent, wonderful actors, athletic and perfect pets for a home. They also have a coat that needs constant grooming, they need room to run, and training.
A Beardie that gets bored will make his or her own entertainment. A fenced in yard is a must, for these escape artists will key on movement or commotion and will run to see what is going on. Training is necessary, but instinct will sometimes kick in with disastrous results.
Beardies are many things, each has his own personality with traits that MOST of the time endear them to us. They make Excellent Therapy Dogs, just ask the thousands of nursing home and hospital residents and patients that have come into contact with them and felt the touch of a soft paw or a gently placed kiss.
So, if you want a companion that will love you and cover your face with sloppy Beardie kisses, someone to do Agility with, or Herding, which they love, or Tracking, or Obedience, you will never find a better friend and partner than a Bearded Collie.

We used to belong to the Great Lakes Bearded Collie Club, although because of time issues we no longer are members but for more information, you can follow this link. We only have 1 Beardie in our house now, we lost our Murphy (CH Brigadoon Something Special ROM HCT CGC) a couple years ago, and just lost his Great Granddaughter, Kitt ( CH Brigadoon's Hot 'N Spicy HCT HIT).
Two years ago we lost our Toby, a "Neardie" (nearly a Beardie). His internet nickname was Toby Bearsbane because he helped alert me to bears that tried to get into our house twice in one night and with his ferocious voice led the others to help scare it away! He was given that name by our friend Karen, who helped me "spring" him from a shelter in Bellingham, Washington ( with BIG help from our Washington friend). Toby will always be my hero!

Now our only Beardie is baby Arwen (Meadows' Only One Wish). We are so proud of her! She is co-owned with her handler and breeder Claudia McNulty. She's a big girl now, see our gallery for a more recent beauty shot.
